Information for AOL Subscribers
The information on this page applies to AOL 5 and earlier.
If you are unable to view the HTML version of E-News
The e-mail reader included with AOL 5 and earlier is not compatible with HTML. When you view the HTML version of E-News, it may appear garbled, and strange characters may appear on the screen. This problem was corrected in AOL 6 and later.
If you subscribe to the HTML version of E-News and use one of these earlier versions of AOL,
you have three options:
- Upgrade to the current version of AOL ( click here ).
- Switch to the text version of E-News ( click here ).
- Follow the steps below to view the HTML version of E-News in your AOL browser (instead of the e-mail reader).
How to view the HTML version in your AOL browser
If you follow the steps below,
it is possible to view your e-mailed copy of HTML E-News in your AOL browser.
- In the AOL mail reader, open your copy of E-News as you would open an ordinary e-mail message.
Don't be concerned that the content of the message is garbled.
- Select File from the menubar at the top of the screen,
and then select Save from the File menu.
A dialog will open in which you will be prompted for the name of the file
and the folder to which you would like this issue of E-News to be saved.
Using a different name for each issue of E-News prevents previous issues from being overwritten.
When naming your file, be sure to end the name with .html .
- For the file name, type something like
enews.html or 6 January 09.html ;
select All Files (*.*) as the file type (Mac users should select Text as the file type); and select the folder in which you would like the file to be saved.
Then click the Save button.
You are now ready to open E-News in your AOL browser.
For the remaining steps, it is not necessary to be connected to AOL.
- Select File from the menubar at the top of the screen,
and then select Open from the File menu.
A dialog will open in which you will be prompted for the name of the file
to which you saved E-News in Step 3.
- Navigate to the appropriate folder and double-click the icon for the issue of E-News you want to read.
The AOL browser will open and display the HTML version of E-News.
